FAQ – Frequently asked questions

Got questions? We’ve got answers.

Do you offer discounts for vacation bookings or packages?

No, we don’t offer discounts for vacation clients or bulk bookings. Each visit still takes up a set time block in our schedule, and short-term bookings don’t increase overall income—in fact, they usually mean more juggling on our end once the spot opens back up. We keep our rates steady to ensure fair, sustainable care for all clients.

Do you offer boarding?

Yes — we offer limited, in-home boarding for a small number of dogs at a time (typically 1–3 dogs total), allowing us to provide a calm, structured, home-style environment rather than a kennel setting.

Because this is not a large facility, dogs must be comfortable being crated when needed and not exhibit separation anxiety or distress when left alone for short periods. All boarding requests are assessed individually to ensure a safe and stress-free experience for every dog in our care.

Do you provide care for other pets (cats, rabbits, birds, etc.)?

Yes! We care for a wide variety of pets, including cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, birds, and other small animals.

While our primary experience is with dogs and cats, we’re also happy to provide care for reptiles and other specialty pets when clear instructions are provided. If your pet has a specific routine, feeding schedule, or habitat setup, we’ll follow your care guidelines closely to ensure everything is handled exactly as you prefer.

Just let us know what your pet needs and we’ll tailor visits to suit their routine.

Do you take on dogs with bite histories or dogs that require muzzles?

Yes. The owner of Howls N Hearts has extensive experience working with muzzle-trained dogs, dogs with bite histories, and power breeds.

These cases are handled with extra care and begin with a thorough intake process, including a behavior discussion to review known triggers, bite level, past incidents, handling preferences, and daily routines. This allows us to create a clear, individualized safety plan that supports your dog’s progress while keeping everyone involved comfortable and secure.

🔒 Important note:

Dogs with any behavioral concerns, including aggression or reactivity, are walked solo only and do not participate in pack walks. This helps ensure a calm, controlled environment that supports long-term stability.

Do you walk power breeds or reactive dogs?

Yes, absolutely. We specialize in handling power breeds, reactive dogs, and complex behavior cases. From leash reactivity to nervous energy, we’ve got the experience to manage it safely and confidently.

Do you walk dogs in packs or solo?

We offer both! Solo walks are great for dogs who need more individualized support. Structured pack walks are available for dogs who are social, well-mannered, and benefit from calm group energy. Pack walk rates are reserved for dogs who have completed an assessment and proven to be low-maintenance in a group setting.

Are you insured?

Yes—we’re fully insured through PROfur, which includes general liability, bonding, and care/custody coverage for your peace of mind.

Do you administer medications or provide care for senior/medical needs?

Yes. We’re comfortable with a variety of needs, including oral medications, insulin, eye/ear drops, and post-surgical care. Just let us know your pet’s routine and we’ll make sure it’s followed carefully.

Do you offer pet transportation?

Yes! We offer pet-only transport (no human passengers) for vet visits, grooming appointments, rehoming, airport travel, and more.

Here’s how pricing works:

  • Local Trips (Mississauga): Flat fee based on zone
  • Extended Transport: Calculated based on time, distance, route complexity, and wait time (if round trip)
  • Holiday & Weekend Travel: Additional fees apply
We transport all sizes and needs—including seniors, crate-trained pets, and those with medical or behavioral conditions.

What does “local transport” mean?

“Local transport” refers to straightforward trips that start from our existing route, include pickup, and end at drop-off—all within a total of 16 km and under 30 minutes of drive time.

This usually applies to simple, nearby trips (like a ride to a vet, groomer, or boarding facility) that don’t take us far off schedule or require major rerouting.

The $35 base rate covers these types of quick, local transports.

If the trip takes more time, goes beyond 16 km, or pulls us out of our core service area, the price is adjusted to reflect the added time and distance.
